Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez threw on young midfield substitute Nicolas Lodeiro to make an impact on Friday's World Cup Group A game against France and the 21-year-old duly delivered a remarkable 16-minute cameo.
With Uruguay being pinned back in their own half Lodeiro joined the fray as a replacement for Ignacio Gonzalez after 63 minutes and was promptly booked two minutes later.
As France pressed and Uruguay's defending became more desperate Lodeiro then lunged at a rampaging Bacary Sagna with a bad tackle that raked the fullback's shin after 81 minutes.
Excellent Japanese referee Yuichi Nishimura promptly showed him a second yellow card followed by a red and Lodeiro trudged off after 16 minutes of action.
Luckily for him his team mates held out for the goalless draw that keeps their qualification hopes buoyant.
