As this year’s edition of the Los Angeles Auto Show is revving its engines in preparations for the first press day, the event’s twitter account is bringing us two live photos from the event. Entering the atmosphere of the first image, we are being taken to the Lexus display, which is located next to Audi’s stand. Lexus is showcasing a variety of models at the event, but the “creme de la creme” (of this image) is a custom-racing incarnation of the GS 450h created by the 0-60 magazine , an extreme creation that made its debut at this year’s SEMA show.

As for the Audi display, this greets us with the “Truth in Engineering” line and allows us to enjoy the robotic-like TT Pikes Peak autonomous vehicle.

Indian Women are Really the Best

Indian women were in the limelight at the Commonwealth Games Friday, winning three golds as the shooters continued to add to their kitty, taking the country's gold tally to 20 on the fifth day of the competitions.

Women's wrestlers won two gold and a silver, while the women's archery team won its first gold at the Games. The women's table tennis team won its first silver at the Games, while Saina Nehwal recorded the only victory as the Indian team settled for the silver in the mixed badminton event. Late in the evening, tribal girl Kavita Rout won a historic bronze in the 10,000 metres race, the first medal by an Indian woman from the track in the Games.

AFTER Venus Raj’s "major major" fourth runner-up finish at the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas last August, it is Czarina Catherine Ramos Gatbonton’s turn to vie for the only world beauty crown that has yet to rest on a Filipina’s head: Miss World.

Czarina left last Friday for Sanya, China to represent the Philippines at the 60th annual Miss World Pageant and was given a warm send-off at the Gateway Mall Suites three days earlier.

The 19-year-old, 5-foot-7 Czarina, a native of Isla Pamarawan, Malolos City, Bulacan, goes to the Miss World tilt thinking she has already won because "I have been blessed with so many opportunities – six months of training with the best team, meeting and talking to a lot of people, studying new cultures. It’s hard but very fulfilling."

According to obesity consultant and practising dietitian Deepika Bhalla, the frequency with which she comes across such cases of young girls wanting to lose weight is alarming. "Girls who're happy being plump in school suddenly become conscious of their looks when they turn 16 or 18. And since that's the time when their college life also begins, they're at pains to look their best. There is also a great deal of peer pressure to look better than your friends," says Deepika, adding, "And the advantage in these times is that you can lose weight pretty quickly, thanks to all the treatments, diets and advice available in the market."
