Sonia Dara, A Harvard University student has become the first Indian-American to be featured in the magazine Sports Illustrated’s celebrated swimsuit issue. Sonia Dara appears in the 2010 issue that went on sale in the US on Tuesday.

Another Indian-American made immigrant history on Sunday by becoming the first from the community to be on a team competing in the Superbowl, the American football championship game and the country’s biggest sporting event. That was John Singh Gill of the losing team, the Indianapolis Colts.

The Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, first published in 1964, is an iconic American publication. It has served as a launching pad for many future supermodels, including Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Heidi Klum. The issue attracts tens of millions of dollars in advertising.

Dara is the daughter of Atlanta, Georgia residents Poornima and Prithipal Dara. Sonia Dara was discovered by the New York-based Elite Model Management, one of the country’s high-powered modeling agencies.

She later went on to do assignments for magazines like Seventeen and Cosmo Girl. But she never lost sight of academics and she is enrolled at Harvard, studying economics and human evolutionary biology. Dara is also a member of the Harvard South Asian Dance Company.

In a video posted on Sports Illustrated’s website, Dara said of shooting in Rajasthan, “Since this is where my ancestors are, I feel there’s a certain place in my heart for it.”

The Hindu Festival of Colours, or Holi, was celebrated Sunday in Sugar Land's Oyster Creek Park. There were Indian snacks and performances by local teens, a sense of joy amongst the community, but the highlight of the event is this stuff. I don't know what these vibrantly colored powders are, but they do look pretty fantastic when slapped into your hair.

Holi is a celebration to usher in spring. It just so happened that Sunday was the perfect day for it.

March is here and this is one month everybody looks forward to for the very simple reason that we have another holiday to look forward to, which coupled with bhang and colours makes it completely worth it. Of course we are talking about Holi. But if you're someone who wants to look back at the pictures of 2010

When it comes to children, Bollywood does go out of its way. So Neetu Chandra drove all the way from her home in the burbs to Breach Candy to shake a leg with children from a spastic school who were performing at Fusion Bollywood’s 4th annual function.

Fusion Bollywood, founded by Ruchita Mehta, promotes dance as a form of fitness. As the name suggests, it’s a fusion of Indian traditional and semi-classical, hip-hop and jazz and a tadka of Bollywood music. And there’s kickboxing too, for flexibility and stamina! Guests for the evening, Rosa Catalano and Rahul Dev, both kickboxing experts, spoke on the importance of fitness. It indeed was heartwarming to see Fusion Bollywood encourage these disabled children to perform and join in the fun.

RYANAIR HAS welcomed a High Court judgment that it has the right to bring proceedings in Ireland against websites that sell on its flights without its permission.

Ryanair says the so-called “screen-scraping” sites breach its website’s terms of use and the airline’s exclusive distribution policy.

It brought proceedings against German sites Billigfluege and Ticket Point in September 2009. Ryanair said the sites had refused to stop unauthorised screen-scraping and mis-selling of tickets from its website. The airline said this breached its terms and conditions.

Both Billigfluege and Ticket Point had argued Irish courts had no jurisdiction over these proceedings and said the case should have been brought in German courts.

Ryanair said the ruling meant it could expedite court proceedings in Ireland against so-called screen-scrapers, which it accuses of “mis-selling” tickets at higher prices.

Price comparison websites, it said, can enter a licence agreement with the airline to legally provide consumers with comparisons.

“We are now going to step up pressure on these ticket tout screen- scrapers, which we believe should be outlawed for good in the interests of consumers,” said Ryanair’s Juliusz Komorek.
