Hollywood actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has revealed she is inspired by 1940s styling and the way women managed to look good on a limited budget.

The 40-year-old who is married to Michael Douglas admires the way women in war time were able to economise but still managed to look glamorous, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

"In the 1940s, it was a wartime, and women had to make best of what they had, whether it be using super-red lipstick or throwing an eyeliner pencil up the back up the leg for the nylon. They had limited resources, and they made the best of themselves," she said.

The brunette star who has been the face of cosmetic brand Elizabeth Arden for eight years however admits she doesn't need to economise with her beauty regime, much to the unhappiness of her husband.

"I'm still a fiend for Arden. I can't get enough. Every time my husband sees anyone from Arden, he's like, 'How much more do we have to put in the bathroom?' I'm like, 'Excuse me, it's my job. I need to test everything'," she said.

Zeta-Jones has also teamed up with Arden to create a limited-edition charity lipstick in aid of Look Good...Feel Better, an organisation which helps boost the self-esteem of people undergoing cancer treatment and the actress is proud to be able to help.

"It really is amazing what the charity does for these women. They lose their hair and eyebrows-what they had used, as woman, as a strength and for empowerment. So we thought that it would be a great idea to give back to strong, powerful women," she said.

The lipstick, which costs $20, sees all of the profits from each sale going directly to the charity.
