Day 1 of Lakme Fashion Week 2009

Brownie delight
Sabyasachi Mukherjee seemed to be in a very good mood on Day 1 as he checked out several collections at the stalls. He was also distributing brownies to anyone and everyone he knew! Trying to earn brownie points, what say Sabya?

The show must go on
Anita Dongre certainly is one tough woman. One has to acknowledge her courage and determination to go ahead with her show despite the fact that she had lost her father just the day before the fashion week. Putting on a brave face, she confidently walked alongside the models in her creations and smiled for the cameras. When we caught up with her backstage, she had this to say, "I think the show has to go on. As a professional who had already made this commitment, I couldn't possibly back out at the last minute. In fact, I had to come down for some refittings after my father's funeral. But I must thank my team and my family for supporting me during such a time."

Wings on stage
The first show of the day saw Dia Mirza do some hand stretches on the ramp, then we had Tamara Moss flaunt her big bell sleeves and Candice Pinto do a little jig in a Malini Ramani creation. Nice, some drama breaks the monotony of the click and whirl of the looms.

Trend-spotting
Day 1 at the Lakme Fashion week was cold as ice -- no celebrities, no impressive front row. However in the dullness we found some gold. Yes, restaurateur AD Singh and model Asif were spotted wearing a gold hoop earring on their right ear at the last show. With the black suit, it really attracted our eye. We like!

Fashion help!
One of the most successful creations of Shantanu & Nikhil has to be the tie-up front satin gown. The designers must have sold them in bulk in all possible hues. We saw Sangita Kathiwada wear this outfit which is seen even more than the number of years Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge ran for. Please fashionistas, do us a small favour and move on.
