The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards took place on 13 Sep at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. In typical MTV over-the-top style, the show included a high-wire act by Pink, always-wacky Lady GaGa covered, and Taylor Swift performing on a subway train.

Along with outstanding performances and some of the best dress and bling of the year, the award show wasn’t without the drama only MTV awards seem to bring.

At one point in the show, Kanye West took the mic out of Taylor Swift’s hand during her acceptance speech for ‘Best Female Video’. Kanye grabbed the mic and blurted “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’m going to let you finish but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time. One of the best of all time!”

The audience went wild, booing and disrupting the show as Taylor looked on in shock and heartbreak.

Later, when Beyonce accepted her award for Video of the Year (for ‘Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)’), she graciously gave Taylor a chance to re-do her acceptance speech without interruption.

Kanye has since blogged an apology, saying “I’m in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment. Beyonce’s video was the best of this decade…I’m sorry to my fans if I let you down guys… I’m sorry to my friends at MTV … I will apologize to Taylor. I’m still very happy for Taylor. I feel really bad for Taylor and I’m sincerely sorry.”

Was his apology enough? Other celebrities like Pink and Kelly Clarkson were not impressed and took to their blogs and Twitter to give their opinion.
