Lakme Fashion Week turned 10 and took off in Mumbai yesterday, with the expected number of showstoppers (Sameera Reddy and Dia Mirza), first row regulars (Kabir Bedi, Urmila Matondkar, Sushama Reddy, Rita Dhody and Haseena Jethmalani) and a mix of drama-loving designers (Neeta Lulla and Anita Dongre) and design centric ones (Anand Kabra).
Neeta Lulla made her name designing for Bollywood stars such as Aishwarya Rai and she is, in essence, a costume designer.Neeta’s show had nothing innovative or unexpected in terms of design, it was a wearable line of Indian outfits. The palette was a muted gold-beige, with large cuff-like sequined and bead embellishment on sleeves. It’s ideal for pretty young women from conservative families–most of the the outfits had sheer sleeves to cover arms–it was sensuous, without being in-your-face sexy. A voluptuous Sameera in an apsara-style outfit was the showstopper.
